Question 1998 Polaris 600 XLT won't start

I have a 1998 Polaris 600 XLT that won't start. It's the first start of the season. It ran fine all last year. I know I am getting gas but I don't think I'm getting spark. I'm not a mechanic but would like to fix the problem myself if I can. Any Idea's out there?

Hi Gary,

First thing to do is to confirm that you have no spark. Take one of your spare plugs and hook it up to one of the spark plug wires. Ground the threads and have someone pull the engine over. You should be able to see the spark jumping the gap at the electrode. Check all of the cylinders.

Allen,

I did try grounding one spark plug and did not get any spark. I will try the same on the other two and let you know what happens. Thanks for your help.

Allen,

I tried each plug one buy one. I made sure they had a good ground. Not one of them would spark.

Default No Spark

First thing first ,there are 3 simple circuits that will kill your ignition sys.
Check your kill switch/key cylinder/and a small micro switch that sits at the base of your thumb throttle with a multie meter to make sure they are working. All of these systems will give you a no spark as they will ground out your coil pack.

Rubber side down.

Thanks for the help. I found a loose wire at the key switch. It runs fine now. Thanks again for the help.
